Who It's For
Written for anyone in a fight.
A closing message to readers facing cancer, loss, family trouble, or any hard season, emphasizing endurance, companionship, faith, and taking the next step.
Tony rejects the idea of a ‘good cancer’ and explains the attitude behind the book’s title: gratitude, faith, and choosing to value each day despite Stage 4 disease.
Behind the Book
Why Tony wrote it
“In the middle of everything — the treatments, the side effects, the exhaustion — I felt an overwhelming pull to finish something I’d started. I wanted to complete my first book, “It’s A Glorious Day: A Memoir in Reflections.” I published it in May.”
“Cancer and cancer treatments dictate an awful lot of things. Writing was something they didn’t get to dictate. I could still think, still create, still work and still be productive, even if I had to do it differently than I had before.”
Inside the Book
A few of the stories
Short, true reflections — each one ends with the lesson Tony took from it, sometimes years later.
The Journey and Faith
Tony’s initial prostate cancer diagnosis, rising PSA, treatment uncertainty, financial concerns, and decision to lean on faith.
Dirt Road Lesson #1: When Everything Stops
The story of the day Tony was served divorce papers, lost access to his bank accounts, and suddenly had to rebuild his life from crisis.
My Christmas Miracle
A Christmas Day heart attack becomes a lasting lesson in perspective, gratitude, faith, and facing later cancer with less fear.
A Step at a Time
A lesson in resisting the urge to solve the whole future at once while facing possible metastatic cancer and focusing only on the next medical step.
Ya’ Gotta Believe
Using a baseball rallying cry as a metaphor for maintaining belief, resilience, and hope during a second fight with prostate cancer.
Asking for Help
A vulnerable account of cancer recurrence and the need to accept help, prayer, support, and community rather than carrying the fight alone.
The Book's Not Written Yet
Facing metastatic cancer, Tony rejects surrender and focuses on second chances, faith, purpose, and writing the remaining chapters of life well.
Days Like These
An honest account of metastatic cancer, treatment fatigue, difficult days, and the decision to keep moving despite fear and physical limits.
It's a Pittsburgh State of Mind
Tony connects Pittsburgh grit and identity with the resilience needed to live fully while facing metastatic cancer.
Bitter or Better?
Tony considers whether cancer and recurring medical stress will make him bitter or better, choosing gratitude, health, and forward motion.
Why Me?
Tony reframes the instinctive question ‘Why me?’ during cancer by shifting toward gratitude, purpose, and what he can still do with the life in front of him.
It's A Glorious Day
Tony rejects the idea of a ‘good cancer’ and explains the attitude behind the book’s title: gratitude, faith, and choosing to value each day despite Stage 4 disease.
“This is an excellent read. Tony grew up in a gritty suburb of Pittsburgh, PA and some of the lessons he learned obviously came from there. I'm sure it also gave him the steely determination to push through the challenges both physical and mental that life has sent his way and use them in a positive way.”
“Tony shares real life obstacles from his life that we can all relate to. How he chose to deal with them and the insight he shares is a reflection of his grit. I would recommend for anyone who needs a push in difficult times.”
“This book is a must read! It was quite emotional and I think I went through just as many emotions reading it as Tony must have went through writing it… he didn't want pity, he wanted our kindness, love and prayers… He is an inspiration to all who know him!”
